About Us
The Women's Club of Farmingdale was organized March 7, 1913 by Miss Abigail E. Leonard, to promote civic, educational and social interests (nineteen charter members comprised the original membership). As the years went by, philanthropic interests replaced the social interests of the club.
Today there are over seventy-five members (day and associate) actively engaged in carrying out the purposes and aims of the club. Every year since 1922, a scholarship in honor of Miss Leonard has been awarded to a local graduate. A Women's Club Scholarship, Humanitarian Award and student aid o the local, county and state level are also given. Interest in an Art and Music Contest in our local schools is encouraged and excellency rewarded. In recent years, additional funds have been awarded, based on need, toward the purchase of academic supplies.
The club is constantly working with the Village Board of Farmingdale to beautify and create interest in our village. Food and clothing are given to families, help in time of disaster and donations to worthy causes are a part of our philanthropic interests. A Junior League Club of the Women's Club of Farmingdale was organized in 1942 and members, after participating in similar activities in the Junior group, become affiliated with the Senior group.
